REST

Hello everybody!!!!
I haven’t done a blog in like 50 years it feels like! It’s amazing how much can take place in your life and then you get sidetracked or lose motivation. I am learning that consistency is key and I am going to continue writing no matter what season of life I find myself in!
Over the last couple of months, God has really dealt with me personally on why I do what I do. He even allowed me to examine if I post to get likes or write for others because I feel obligated etc… During this very silent season, Jesus has taken me through almost the entire new testament and has shown me pieces of myself that I can’t wait to share with you guys! With that being said, LET’S GET INTO IT!
I entitled this blog, “Rest,” because I, at times, do everything but REST. I often tend to become restless especially when I don’t know what is going on. I can get so caught up in writing a poem for an event, going to work, or meeting with people that I lose sight of the assignment that God has for me for that day and that time.
Isn’t it amazing that we serve a GOD of REST, but we are hardly at rest!?
When God revealed that to me, I had to take a step back and evaluate what I was doing. Yes, doing things for the Lord is all good and well, but if we lose sight of that personal intimate time with the Lord then, it is all for nothing! God desires us to be full of Him, so we can pour out who He is onto others! What good is it if we do a thousand things and miss Jesus in the midst of “serving” Him?
Before I get into my main scripture, I am reminded of the story in the Bible about Martha and Mary founded in Luke 10:38-42. Long story short, Jesus came to a village called Bethany and Martha invited Jesus into her home. Martha’s sister was Mary and when Jesus entered into the household, Mary sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to Him speak. Martha on the other hand was very busy serving and was distracted by everything she was trying to prepare for Jesus! She even got mad at her sister for not helping her prepare for Jesus’ arrival. Verses 41 and 42 always gets to me especially when I am going a million miles an hour and I think I am doing so many GREAT THINGS.
“But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41-42 amp)
We need to take something from this story because so many of us are RESTLESS. We are looking to advance and we are tired. We are praying for God to open doors and trying to make a way out of no way and God is calling us to REST. I have lost my voice for two days now and as my body and voice shut down I realized something. I don’t stop talking long enough to even be at rest HA! I don’t sit and be quiet to become one with the silence. What I am trying to say is, I keep going and going, even mentally, to the point that I realized that I don’t give God the parts of me that are passionate and striving to be the best I can be so I can actually hear what He has to say. Jesus is the GOOD PART, as He was trying to explain to Martha. He is the reason why we should do what we do.
We have to learn how to be STILL. God wants us to be like Mary and be broken before Him so He can restore us. We are doing toooo many things that we give Him our leftovers. The truth is how can we serve when we ourselves are empty?! We will be of no good to anyone, if we are not replenished with Jesus.
The scriptures I want us to focus on this week is Psalms 95:7-11 in the message version! When I tell you that the message version has been blessing my life, you just won’t understand! God has been truly speaking to me on such simpler terms and I encourage you guys to internalize these scriptures.
“Drop everything and listen, listen as he speaks: “Don’t turn a deaf ear as in the Bitter Uprising, As on the day of the Wilderness Test, when your ancestors turned and put me to the test. For forty years they watched me at work among them, as over and over they tried my patience. And I was provoked—oh, was I provoked! ‘Can’t they keep their minds on God for five minutes? Do they simply refuse to walk down my road?’ Exasperated, I exploded, ‘They’ll never get where they’re headed, never be able to sit down and rest.’” (Psalms 95:7-11 msg)
Can we keep our mind on God for five minutes or do we get distracted with the cares of this world? Do we want to rest or are we so used to doing everything that we don’t even know what rest is? Don’t be like me and allow your voice to be gone for you to realize it’s time to SIT DOWN somewhere! haha
Everything will be alright, what we are experiencing right now is growing pains! Jesus loves us and He wants us to slow down. His desire for us is to obey and REST IN HIM. He is EVERYTHING we need! The more we slow down, we won’t make impulsive decisions. We will learn how to consult Him first and rest in the answers that He gives us because we know it is for our good.
Maybe today you need rest from the noise in your family, relationship, job, etc.. He can silence the noise today. He can bring restoration to the pain. He can help you sleep at night again. He can wash His love over you to the point that you will be able to move forward. The thing is we got to sit still long enough for Him to give us a shot so He can inject the medication of rest into us. It will sting for a little bit, but you will be back to normal. He can bandage the distress and cause you to be whole. Let’s rest.
I love you guys. If you need me to pray for anything message me, I’d love to hear from you. I encourage us to spend 30 UNDIVIDED minutes with the Lord this week. Let us show Him that we need Him more than we want to do things to please Him. He wants all of us. Have a great day!!!
