Hello Everybody!

I am so excited to talk to you this week about a topic that the Lord has placed on my heart. I look forward to writing to you guys because I am reminded that God still speaks and has something for us in the season that we are currently in. So, let’s get into it!

Remember when you were in high school and when someone passed away or a death occurred in the nation, everyone would bow their heads down for a moment of silence. In that moment, it’s as if the world stood still as we reflected over the loss of the person in our nation or as we reverenced someone of importance. I can remember being a little girl talking and laughing with my friends and when that statement was made I had to hold in every emotion inside of me to be respectful.

A moment of silence (or an x minute silence) is a period of silent contemplation, prayer, reflection, or meditation. A moment of silence is often a gesture of respect, particularly in mourning for those who have died recently or as part of a tragic historical event.

As I started to read and understand what a moment of silence was, I decided to define for myself what silence is. According to Webster’s dictionary, Silence is “the absence of any sound or noise; stillness.”

This would then conclude that in order to be silent, one must be still. I started to do some self-reflection and ask myself the following questions:

When am I still? Is there an absence of noise and/or stillness in my life? Do I only hear noise? Does the peace of God rest in me or am I so cluttered in my mind that I can’t even stand for a moment of silence because it seems too long?

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. (Psalms 62:5-7 ESV)

David, in Psalms 62, was declaring that though there is chaos around him, he was going to CHOOSE to be silent before the Lord because that was where his hope was found. His hope was Jesus and because Jesus was his hope, David declared that he would not be shaken.

How many times have we allowed the noise in our lives to cause us to sing a different song! We sing the song of the past, present, and future but never the song of the Lord. We sing about the noise in our lives and we amplify it with our worry, regret, confusion, anger, and the list goes on. The Lord is asking us to be still, unmoved, and unshaken because our hope should be found in HIM.

When you are calm you are telling the Lord, “I trust you because this situation is beyond me and I know YOU can fix it.”

I can’t tell you how many times my heart has been cluttered with my ambition, my past, and the frustrations of the day that I couldn’t even hear God. It was when I got myself into a corner that I came to the realization that if I don’t block out the noise in my life, with the presence of God, I will continue to sing the same old sad song.

You want to know what the voice of the Lord sounds like? Be still enough to spend time in the Word so you can become familiar with His voice.  How do we expect to hear Him when we are TALKING ALL THE TIME! I know this first hand because I don’t like it when people talk over me because it no longer becomes a conversation! HA! Don’t you hate it when you can’t get a word in when talking to somebody? The same idea applies for our Lord. How can God speak to us if we are never STILL?!

I am praying for our hearts today that God would remove the idols in our lives! I pray that God breaks down the noise in our hearts and minds so that we may be able to hear His voice. I pray that we would be intentional about spending time in the Word of God so that our faith in Him will be strengthen. Let’s take a MOMENT OF SILENCE that from today onwards, we will allow the noise in our lives to DIE and God’s voice to REIGN!

I love you guysssss but, the Lord loves you so much more!
