Losing Control

The rain wept on my car that day, as if the sun had broken its heart. My windshield wipers could not contain enough space between the raindrops and my vision from seeing through the windscreen. As I exited off the I-35 ramp, I tried to over correct myself. I lost control of the car! I no longer could hold on to my steering wheel to steer me into the right direction, I was heading straight towards the ditch. All I could cry out was, “Lord, Help me!”

Matthew 16:25 (NLT) says, “If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.”

Now, you don’t have to worry! I am safe and intact and my car was left without a scratch! God is too good!!! Sadly, it was then that I realized that every decision I have made has been in control. The moment I lost control, I began to lose my train of thought, I screamed, I cried, I yelled, I did everything I knew not to do. Granted, I was in a life or death situation, but for that moment, I had no idea what to do!

Often our lives are under OUR control. We are so much control that even if we can get God under our agenda we will be fine! “Lord, if you can get me this job by the age of 25, a husband, wife, car, and house by noon tomorrow then we will be good!”

No! It does not work that way! When we come into Christ, we are saying, “Lord, I abandon my plan because my plan did not work before! Lord, I am entrusting my life into your hands because who You are is better than any plan I could conjure up. Therefore, I have no plan or plans unless you are IT.”

It took me so long to understand this concept that I have to lose my control for the sake of knowing Christ. I have no plan, He is my plan. I don’t move unless He tells me too. I obey NOW and not later. The only way you will gain confidence in losing control is by trusting Him. Trust is built on relationship. Without having a relationship with Jesus Christ, you won’t ever give up your control.

The only reason losing control is difficult is because we want our own way because we think it is better. Why do we have to lose control and get into a ditch before we cry out for the Lord’s help!

What if we said, “Lord, I trust you! This time I want You to drive and lead me. I have no agenda because I just want YOU.” Where would our lives be?

I encourage you to LET GO of your control today because there is something BEAUTIFUL on the other side of your obedience.

Praying and Love you guys!
