What are you looking at?

Have you ever looked directly into the Sun? Picture placing your eyes on the biggest star in our universe! The ultraviolet rays would cause your eyes to burn out of your head. Each time you take another look, you would destroy your vision causing potential blindness. The only way to protect your eyes would be by having a solar filter to block these rays from entering into the motherboard of your mind’s eye.
Matthew 6:2 says,”Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light.”
In this day and age, social media has played a prevalent role in our every day lives. Before we wake up, we pick up a phone to see what the virtual world is doing in hopes that we can partake in its affairs. We wrestle with the idea that we are not as efficient, not as goal-oriented, or not as fit as the person that flashes across our screens. We even look too long at the “relationship goals” that are hash tagged along our timelines and we neglect to look at our own lives. We sit in discontentment of how we are not where we are supposed to be as individuals because of a moment displayed on camera. It is that same discontentment that will lead us to become envious of what someone else has.
I remember sitting on my couch after a long day and I decided to scroll through my timeline on Facebook. I came across a picture of young engaged couple and began to look into my own life and saw how SINGLE I WAS! I traveled down the road of envy, knocked on jealousy’s door, and sorrow opened up his home to me. I reluctantly decided to have a seat and wallowed by my sister, self pity. I began to converse with my thoughts and asked her, “When will I be married? When will someone come whisk me away from all my problems and bring my glass slipper to me?”
It was then that the Lord said, “What are you waiting on? You are forgetting that YOU are my BRIDE that I am preparing. You are without blemish and I alone am your BRIDEGROOM! I’ve been standing outside your door the entire time waiting for you to let me inside; but you’ve been too busy looking at an LED light that continues to keep you up at night. If only you could stay your eyes on me, I can be all that you NEED!”
You may not be like me and think, “I don’t look at other people’s relationships,” but you too have placed your eyes on something for way too long. You may have fed your addictions by watching a TV show, playing a video game, fantasizing over someone or something, or stayed on social media for too long.
Though, some of these things are good and well, we have lost SIGHT of Jesus!
I’ve spent more time with my phone, then talking to Him. I’ve turned my eyes away from the CROSS because looking at the nails piercing through his hands because of my actions was too much to bear. I could not believe that a love that severe existed, but I’m here to tell you it does!
We must be careful what we deposit into our spirits because what we SEE, we INTERNALIZE. What we internalize, we will MEDITATE on. What we meditate on, we will put into ACTION and those actions can cause us to sin.
Are you looking directly into the sun unaware that you are internally destroying your soul and causing yourself spiritual blindness?
Luke 11:34-36 says, “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is bad, your body is filled with darkness. Make sure that the light you think you have is not actually darkness. If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.”
